Alexander MATHESON 1830-1892, b. Lochalsh, Ross-shire, Scotland, son of Dugald MATHESON and Rebecca McLENNAN. Alexander MATHESON was recorded on the passenger list as a nephew of Farquhar MATHESON and Mary MATHESON who, along with six children, 2 neices & a nephew, emigrated from Liverpool on the ship "New Zealander" which arrived at Portland Bay, S-W Victoria, Australia on 30 November 1853. The passenger list recorded the family as :--Farquhar MATHESON (48, Agr. Labourer from Creagh, Lochalsh, Ross-shire, Scotland), Mary (36), Isabella (17), Murdo (14), Mary (12), Rebecca (10), Christy (6), Donald (4), as well as Alexander (27, Nephew), Mary (28, Niece) & Rebecca (24, Niece). Farquhar and Mary MATHESON both died at Sandford and are buried in the Old Casterton cemetery.
Alexander's sister Mary from the "New Zealander" married Andrew Ross REID and died at Penshurst, S-W Victoria in 1897.
Alexander's sister Rebecca from the "New Zealander" married Thomas WRIGHT ~1829-1882, had a large family in Portland, S-W Vic., and died at Hamilton, S-W Victoria in 1908.
Christina McFARLANE c.1832-1915, b. Iona, Argyllshire, Scotland, daughter of Archibald McFARLANE and Mary McDONALD. Christina was one of the five children of Archibald McFARLANE and Mary McDONALD who, with their widowed mother, emigrated from Liverpool in August 1852, on the ship "Marmion" which arrived at Portland Bay, S-W Victoria, Australia on 4 December 1852. The passenger list recorded the family as :--Mary MacFARLANE (48, widow, strong, healthy woman) from Iona, Duke of Argyll, Dugald (28, in service at Paisley), Ronald (24, in service Arran), Archibald (21, in service Paisley), Christina (19, farm servant, 12 mths, fine woman), Archibald (16, fine healthy lad)
Alexander MATHESON and Christina McFARLANE were married in 1865 in Victoria and had a family of six children born in the Henty and Merino area, S-W Victoria from 1866 to 1876.
