George SHEARWOOD b. 1856, "Merino Downs", Victoria son of Thomas SHEARWOOD and Ann GARNETT.
Thomas SHEARWOOD, father of George was b.1830 Pontefact, Yorkshire, married Ann GARNETT, also from Yorkshire in 1848, Nottinghamshire, England. They arrived arrived at Portland on the "Severn" in Dec 1856 with their young son Thomas. Thomas SHEARWOOD was employed as a Stud Groom at "Merino Downs" Station until the property was cut up for selection in 1867 when Thomas selected a parcel of the land on Gum Creek at Henty, just south of Sandford. Thomas and Ann SHEARWOOD farmed their land until their deaths in 1907 & 1908 respectively after which they were buried in the Sandford Cemetery. Thomas and Ann had three children - Thomas 1854-1827, George 1856-1914 and Emma 1858-1862.
George SHEARWOOd b.1856 d. 1914 was married in 1881 at Gum Creek (nr Sandford), Victoria to Margaret Caroline GASPERINO, b. 1863, Sandford, Vic, d. 1904, daughter of Anthony GASPERINO and Hannah HOURIGAN / HOGAN.
George and Margaret SHEARWOOD are both buried in the Sandford Cemetery.
