Thomas Walter WARREN ~1840-1916, was born in Navn, Co Kildare, Ireland son of John WARREN and Maria FITZGERALD. He arrived as an 8 year old in 1849, with is parents and siblings on the "Prince Pegent" at Port Adelaide, South Australia. He moved with his family in 1860 to south-west Victoria where land was selected, and he remained and established himself as a successful famer at Runnymede & Bowtell's Creek, near Sandford, S-W Victoria. His parents and some other family members moved onto Moulamein in southern NSW where his parents died in the 1880s.

Barbara McLENNAN 1847-1919, was born in Contin, Ross-shire, Scotland, daughter of Duncan McLENNAN and Christina McRAE. Duncan & Christina McLENNAN and their family of six children emigrated from Liverpool on the ship "Marion" which arrived at Adelaide, South Australia in December 1854. The passenger list recorded the family as :--Duncan McLENNAN (36, Agr. Labourer from Dingwall, Ross, Scotland), Christiana (36), Mary (19, Domestic Servant), Farquhar (15, Labourer), Alexander (13), Julia (13) [sic Isabella], Donald (8) Barbara (7).

Thomas Walter WARREN and Barbara McLENNAN were married in 1868 at Hamilton, S-W Victoria and had a family of nine children born at Sandford, S-W Victoria from 1869 to 1885.

The family were successful farmers at Sandford, having a selection known as "Glenelg View" at Runnymede, near Sandford. A few of Thomas WARREN's agricultural outcomes were...

  • 1867 : Vice-president of the Merino & Sandford Agricultural Society.
  • 1873 : Planted wheat for the first time at his "Glenelg View" property..
  • 1887 : 1st Prize for wheat at the Hamilton Agricultural Society Show.
  • 1890 : 1st Prize for wheat at the Merino, Sandford & Casterton Agricultural Society Show.

The family was living in the old McLENNAN residence of "Burnside" at Bowtell's Creek, near Sandford in S-W Victoria when Thomas WARREN died in 1916 and was buried in the Sandford cemetery. His widow Barbara died in 1919 and was also buried at Sandford.
